Smart Events: Chronicling v1.6 iOS 26 Update

Chronicling is ready for iOS, watchOS and visionOS 26! This major update will be released on Monday 15th September to coincide with the new OS release and makes tracking smarter, faster, and more polished than ever.

The highlight of the release is Smart Events - using on-device Apple Intelligence to instantly transform your text into structured events, complete with category, time, notes, and count. Smart Events are also available in Shortcuts, with the option to extend the prompt using custom instructions.

Other new features include:

Search: new tab with unified results across groups, categories and event notes
Charts: interactive “lollipop” highlights on bar charts for quick data discovery
Design & performance: smoother animations, refreshed visuals, and many under-the-hood improvements

Chronicling v1.4: iOS 18 and watchOS 11 Update

One of the key features of Chronicling is the ability to quickly log the things you want to track, whether the app is open or not. The highlight new OS features of custom Control Center support, watchOS double tap and interactive Smart Stack widgets are a great fit for this, and are fully supported with this new update.

Chronicling 1.4 will be released on Monday 16th September to coincide with the release of iOS 18, bringing with it a number of new features:

Control Center support for adding events and opening the app,
Dark mode and tint support for all icon variants and widgets,
On watchOS, double tap to add an event from the category view and tap the category icon to add an event from Smart Stack widgets,
Choose from hundreds more symbols for category icons with a new suggested section,
Support for new journal suggestion types: reflection, state of mind, generic media and motion activity.

Counts, New Charts and Journal Suggestions: v1.3 Update

This week, v1.3 of Chronicling launched, bringing a number of new features to make tracking even faster and more flexible. The highlight is the ability to add a count to each event, so you can now track, for example, pages read, miles walked, or liters of water. A default can be set for each category, making it easier to keep tracking via widgets and Shortcuts too.

This update also adds support for the Journal Suggestions framework. By tapping the lightbulb on the Events tab, you can add an event with the date, time, and notes pre-populated from the suggestion. In Settings, you can map each type of suggestion to a category; a Contact suggestion could be quickly logged to a Friends category, for example.

The Events tab has been redesigned, bringing the stacked bar chart to iPhone. This chart can be filtered by group and toggled between plotting the number of events or scaling the bars by counts.

Apple Vision Pro Launch Ready

I’m excited to share that Chronicling is ready to launch on Apple Vision Pro this Friday. This new version brings the familiar features of the iOS and iPad apps into the immersive realm of visionOS, with a unique addition.

On visionOS, you can place widget-like windows for each category around your space, wherever works for you. Whether it’s tracking your coffee intake, monitoring your plant watering schedule, recording movie nights or remembering when to change your bed linen, Chronicling lets you log these activities right where they happen.

If you’re unsure about when you last watered your plant, glance at the window you’ve placed near it for a quick reminder. This integration of digital logging into your physical space aims to make tracking your activities even more straightforward than before.

Support for Apple Vision Pro is available from v1.2.21 on the App Store.

Chronicling 1.2: iOS 17 and watchOS 10 Update

Chronicling 1.2 will be released on Monday 18th September to coincide with the release of iOS 17, bringing with it a number of new features:

A new watchOS app, with circular and rectangular complications
Interactive widgets for instant event logging from the Home or Lock screen
A fresh new icon, with custom color options
Two new widget types, multiple categories and the events summary chart, available in multiple sizes
StandBy support for widgets
Choose from SF Symbols 5 for category icons

With the watch app and interactive widgets, including in StandBy, logging the things that matter to you has never been easier.
